BASKETBALL: Freshman recruit shines before hitting the court of Memorial Gym

Soon to arrive to Vanderbilt's campus is basketball recruit is John Jenkins of Gallatin, Tenn. The shooting guard is known as a "perimeter sniper" and performed at a notably strong level during last week's NBA Players Assoc. Top 100 Camp in Charlottesville, Va., as reported in The City Paper.

Jerry Meyer, the National Analyst for recruiting at Rivals.com, told The City Paper that Jenkins "can hit shots on the move and doesn’t need much space to get it off. Other areas of his game are in the process of developing, but there is no doubt that he will be a high-level scorer in the SEC.”

This is good news for the Commodores, who said goodbye to stars such as seniors Shan Foster and Alex Gordon in May. Jenkins will bring with him a list of credentials that include the Class AA Mr. Basketball honor and a ranking by Rivals.com as the nation's No. 53 "overall prospect."
