Vanderbilt is the first university in the state to receive Gold level certification from the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.
LEED is accepted nationally as the provider of guidelines for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. Winning the award thus recognizes The Commons as environmentally responsible and as a healthy place to work.
Application for this award was prompted by the involvement of the student organization, SPEAR (Students Promoting Environmental Awareness and Recycling).
