Vanderbilt prepares for Commencement exercises Friday morning

Over 3,000 students will receive degrees from Vanderbilt University tomorrow morning during the Commencement exercises on Alumni Lawn, according to a press release from Vanderbilt News Service on Thursday.

Chancellor Nick Zeppos will address the gradutes in his first Commencement address.

Of the 3,215 degrees being awarded, 1,541 will go to undergraduates and 1,693 to graduate and professional students. Nineteen students will claim dual degrees. About 2,578 graduates are expected to attend the ceremony, which will begin at 9 a.m. with graduate and professional students recessing at about 10:15 a.m. for their respective exercises, which will be held at other locations on campus.

Local Nashvillians and those attending the ceremony should be aware that traffic around the area will be heavier than usual throughout the morning, as it has been often this week.

The event will be moved to Memorial Gym in case of severe weather.
